If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, obviously you’ll want to avoid places like Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, as well as the Sudanese countries. You’ll want to find some places where there’s a democratic government at work, no war or terrorist activity, sensible military spending, and very little crime.
By these standards, even the US isn’t really considered all that safe especially for foreign tourists. There’s the proliferation of guns and the presence of organized crime to consider. Besides, a country that is home to 25% of the prisoner population in the entire world isn’t exactly what anyone would consider peaceful.
So where should you go? Here are some suggestions:
Now if you want some peace, many consider Iceland the place to go. It has only 300,000 people and the murder rate is 1.8 per 100,000 a year, so that’s about 5 or 6 murders a year. In some cities in the US, that’s what you call a weekend.
Part of the reason for the cool demeanor of the people here is that there’s a culture of tolerance in the community, coupled with an amazing 100% literacy level. In comparison, in the US 14% of the population can’t read.
And you won’t get bored in Iceland, either. There are so many spectacular landscapes here along with glaciers and volcanoes to explore and marvel at. This is where part of Game of Thrones was filmed, so you know it’s really a nice place to visit. Who knows? You’re going to fall inlove with the country you would not want to leave!
There was a time when Europeans were beseeching God to protect them against the “fury of the Northmen”, many of which were from Denmark. But the time of the Vikings has long passed, and now you have relaxed Danes cycling all over Copenhagen.
The Danish people have truly mellowed down now, and the government is focused on health care, gender equality, and social responsibility. They have a well-loved monarchy, little crime, and very attractive people inside and out – no doubt a winner of a tourist destination.
New Zealand is a beautiful country, and no one can argue with that. Just in case you forgot, this is the place where they filmed The Lord of the Rings, so you know the landscapes are extremely gorgeous.
More importantly, the people are truly welcoming, and the country’s respect for human rights is above reproach. The standards of living are high as well, so the crime rate is low.
New Zealanders themselves receive very generous leave benefits so they also like to travel and relax through sports. Catch a rugby game for some excitement, or traipse through the countryside. There’s no ring here that will corrupt your soul. Instead, you’ll be imbued with the kind of peace that’s not so easy to find anywhere else.
So forget the usual tourist destinations and avoid the high crime areas. Visit any of the three countries we’ve mentioned, and complete peace of mind is what you’ll get. Guaranteed.
